I bought this contemporary icon in St Paul’s Chapel at Ground Zero, Manhattan on my first visit there several years ago. It has hung in our home since then.
It is with us on our year of journeying as a reminder to us that wherever we are – we are ‘home’.
We arrived in Portland late on the 7th of September. After a day of relaxing at Clare’s brother’s home we hit downtown this morning to do some essential jobs. By noon the chilly mist had lifted to reveal a cloudless sky and this Pioneer Square Courthouse flag.

We stopped at Torver in the southern lakes to see a very fishy phone box.
Headed to Coniston Water for a canoe. The swell was too high to take out a canadian so we chugged over the waves in a very slow motor boat towards Peel Island. Not very Swallows and Amazons but as adventurous as we could manage.
Wonderful sky.
An emergency visit to the dentist took us back near our home again. We had already said our goodbyes to the iconic chimneys of Cockenzie power station which are due for demolition.
As we sped past on the A1 we knew this really would be the last time we will see this sight again.
We are receiving gift upon gift of warm, wonderful hospitality.
