Caught the new MAX Orange Line to Milwaukie via the elegant Tilikum Crossing bridge which opened last week. The bridge carries public transport, bikes and pedestrians but no cars. It is a bridge ‘for the people’ taking its name from the Chinook words for ‘people’ and ‘place’.
Coffee and ginger cake in the Painted Lady cafe was delicious.
The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

A good afternoon’s work!
Just up from the beach a herd of Elk were grazing on the dunes.
After the pounding of the ocean the stillness of their presence was good to be with for a while.

A kaleidoscope of activity – building sand castles, photographing, paddling, walking a labyrinth, kite flying…and just watching the ocean.
I bought this contemporary icon in St Paul’s Chapel at Ground Zero, Manhattan on my first visit there several years ago. It has hung in our home since then.
It is with us on our year of journeying as a reminder to us that wherever we are – we are ‘home’.
We saw this outside a house near where we are staying. What a great idea for outside community centres, churches, schools or other places in many of our neighbourhoods.
We arrived in Portland late on the 7th of September. After a day of relaxing at Clare’s brother’s home we hit downtown this morning to do some essential jobs. By noon the chilly mist had lifted to reveal a cloudless sky and this Pioneer Square Courthouse flag.
