Tour @ Tournus

Visited the lovely town of Tournous mainly to see the Abbey and the 12th century mosaics of the months of the year and signs of the zodiac that were discovered during restoration work.

We took a wrong turn and ended up in the town square where crowds had gathered to watch the Paris to Cannes ‘Ancient’Motor Tour pass through. A great atmosphere with free pizza for all.

We drove on to Chardonnay where we ate our picnic. As we wound our way back along the country lanes towards Cluny we found ourselves caught up in the car rally. Our speed picked up a little more than usual!

Are you sure you aren’t being caught up in various re-makes of old films. A couple of weeks ago it was The Italian Job and now it sounds like either The Great Race or Monte Carlo or Bust! Please make no attempt to charter a light aircraft or I foresee it turning into Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines.

On a sadder note, RIP Victoria Wood. One of the greatest British comedians who ever lived, with a talent for spotting and showcasing the poetry of ordinary life. From Mrs Overall to “Two Soups”, from “That Day We Sang” to Dinnerladies, Pat and Margaret and Housewife, 49, she was a true comic genius with an eye for how things can be both achingly funny and achingly sad simultaneously. A real original and unique talent who has been gathered far too soon.
